It is Maharashtrian dish usually prepared for fasting in holy month of ‘Shravan’. Main ingredients in it is Varai and Jaggery. Jaggery is natural sweetener which give heavenly flavor to the Receipe. Combination of these two ingredients make this Receipe little bit high caloric...So MODERATION IS THE KEY....Still it is all time favorite for fasting and kids lunchbox ... Twist to Receipe is adding fresh fruits ...

Ingredients

  • listcheck Varai 50 gm
  • listcheckJaggery 50gm
  • listcheckGhee 5 gm
  • listcheckCashew/ almond 10 gm each
  • listcheckGrated apple 100gm
  • listcheckCoconut 10 gm
  • listcheckMilk 25 ml
  • listcheckCardamon powder 1 tsf
  • Method

  • Step-1
    Add ghee in pan and roast almond and cashew till golden brown
  • Step-2
    Remove roasted almonds and cashew and add Varai in same pan.
  • Step-3
    Roast Varai on slow flame till it get aromatic.
  • Step-4
    Add boiled water to varai. Water should be double quantity than varai.
  • Step-5
    Keep lid on pan.
  • Step-6
    Sometimes Varai soak more water so before adding jaggery check that it is cooked nicely .
  • Step-7
    Now add jaggery, Apple ,dry fruit, milk and cardamom powder in it .
  • Step-8
    I prefer a pinch of salt in all sweets so I added salt in it( optional)
  • Step-9
    Keep it on low flame with lid on it. When mixture come close switch off the gas.
  • Step-10
    When mixture is cooled down pour it in on plate greased with ghee .make square shape out of it.
  • Step-11
    Garnish it with fresh fruits
