What Are Macro-Nutrients & What Role Do They Play In The Body?

Simply put it macronutrients refer to Protein, Carbohydrates & Fats. Seems simple enough but each of these 3 macronutrients play a crucial role in the body, which is why restricting or even worse completely removing any of them for long periods of time can have negative consequences 😵. So let’s discuss what the role of each nutrient plays and why they’re important.

🍗 Protein: Protein is essential for muscle growth & muscle recovery/ tissue repair. Reality is you need to be having protein if you want to optimise muscle hypertrophy (muscle growth). 🍞 Carbohydrates: Carbs are your bodies main source of fuel and are easily used by the body for energy. Carbs break down into glucose, which is stored in the muscles and liver for energy. Carbs are also very important for the central nervous system, kidney, brain & intestinal health. 🥑 Fats: Fats have been somewhat demonised over the years primarily due to their name fat being associated negatively with body fat. However your body NEEDS fat. Fats are essential in hormone regulation & cell, nerve tissue production. Fats are also essential for absorbing certain vitamins and minerals.
