Imagine your life with a parrot. This parrot is only a parrot - it doesn't have any information, insight or knowledge. It presents things 'parrot fashion' with no understanding or comprehension. ⁣

⁣ However, this particular parrot is poisoned and poisonous. It's been specially trained to be unhelpful to you, continuously commenting on you and your life, in a way that consistently puts you down criticizing you. It picks up on everything you're told and spends every minute of the day with you. It attends all of your meetings, and it starts to recite things back to you. Just a Parrot Way. ⁣ ⁣ How long will you take to throw a towel over the cage or getting rid of the parrot? Months? Years? Decades? It has been abusing you and occupying your space in the head and bullying you inside. ⁣ ⁣ We listen to that parrot, believe the parrot, and then get upset. This then influences the way we live our lives, the way we behave towards others, how we are, what we think about others, what we think about the world, and how we think and feel about ourselves. ⁣ ⁣ We can figure out how to utilize the cure: Just look at that parrot, and cover the cage! "There's that parrot once more. I don't need to hear it out it's only a parrot" Then go and do something else. Put your focus of attention on something other than that parrot. This parrot is poison, however, and it won't up surrender easily, so you'll need to keep using that antidote and be persistent in your PRACTICE! ⁣ ⁣ In the long run, it will become weary of the towel, tired of you not reacting. You'll see it less and less. It may very well surrender its toxic substance as your counteractant conquers it, or maybe take off to any place harmed parrots go. ⁣ ⁣ To all the healthcare professionals or anyone for that matter:⁣ Remember whenever someone comes to you to seek help. What will the parrot talk when one leaves the conversation? Concentrating on the good things in the talk can affect one's self-confidence significantly. Construct self-efficacy. Concentrate on the positive things you find during your assessment, and don't teach the parrot new unhelpful words! ⁣ Adapted from “The MalevoleParrot” – Kristina Ivings. #daactarni
