Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR)

RMR accounts for the number of calories needed for all the essential functions of the body at rest. Also, know as BMR or basal metabolic rate. RMR is the largest portion of total daily energy expenditure and constitutes a major part of human metabolism ranging between 60 - 70 % of total calories burned during the day.

Factors that can affect RMR are age, weight, height, gender, and body composition. Body composition is the key factor that can affect the calculation of RMR. A person with better body composition will always have a higher RMR.
