Is foam rolling really that effective?

Some claim that foam rolling is the gold standard for recovery. However, it is not entirely true even if some studies have shown favorable results.

In a two week study, foam rolling was put to test. Two groups, one group used to foam rolling post-warm-up, the other group didn’t. At the end of the study, there was no significant difference in muscle soreness at the allotted time points between the two groups. Also note, foam rolling/soft tissue mobilization can be used for short-term increases in ROM. As part of an effective strength training program, this could help with some mobility issues. In summary, foam rolling is not exactly the “gold standard” recovery method. Your time could be better spent using other more impactful means of recovery such as low-intensity walking, or cycling.
