Are You Yo-Yo Dieting?

Dieting Psychology
by Praveen Budhrani

While setting fitness and weight loss goals are great, you should not be cutting corners to achieve this on an aggressive timeline. Your weight has increased over a longer time period and it is best to work on strategies that allow you to lose this weight sustainably, else you till experience this ‘yo-yo’ dieting effect. It has nothing to do with ‘Yo-Yo Honey Singh’ (although he is struggling with his weight and can fit aptly in this example :/ )’. ‘Yo-Yo Dieting’ is the phenomenon of losing weight, then gaining again, and repeating the cycling, again and again! Here are a few signs which indicate that you might be a Yo-yo dieter or moving in that direction: You are too obsessed with the number on the weighing scale and don’t appreciate non-scale victories You seek instant gratification, for e.g., starting with an objective like “What if I do this for 12 weeks, what will happen and how much will I benefit?” You do the diet for an event like weddings, holidays, functions, summer, etc. You always start off on an aggressive note like cutting down dinner, cutting sugar, cutting carbs, etc. You follow the diet, which you know that you cannot sustain over a period of 10-15 years. So, are you Yo-Yo Dieting?
