5 SIGNS FROM YOUR BODY - INDICATING YOU TAKE A REST DAY!

When on our fitness journey, we often tend to get eager and overly motivated to see results and push ourselves over and beyond our limits, resulting in exhaustion or over training.

Amidst all the enthusiasm, we neglect or overlook many signs from our body. Here are five signs your body is telling you to take a day off. 1. Muscle soreness - The fact that you are sore all over even after couple of days of training or have DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) is a clear indicator that you need to change your lifting schedule for that muscle group. Give your muscles enough time to recover and if the problem exists, take a day off instead of training the already sore muscles. Prolonged muscle soreness indicates that your body isn’t fully recovering. 2. You are feeling irritated or cranky - If you see yourself getting irritated at the smallest things and snapping at your loved ones, over training could be one of the main factors behind it. Elevated cortisol levels for a longer period of time can negatively affect your mental & physical health. 3. Disturbed sleep pattern - Real transformation and recovery of your body happens while you sleep and rest. If you are having trouble sleeping or even after sleeping for 6-8 hours you wake up feeling fatigued, its a sign to take a few days off & focus on holistic recovery. 4. Feeling dehydrated constantly - Dehydration can easily be because of hot humid weather or low fluid intake, but over-training can also be one of the reasons for dehydration. Your body can waste away if its in a catabolic state for a long period of time, which can result in dehydration. So rest up and re-hydrate. 5. Sick or hungover - Don’t train on the days you are sick, its only going to worsen things for your already tired self. Also when your usual workouts seem much harder than they normally do and when you have a constant feeling of not hitting the gym or working out, hit the snooze button and listen to your body. You don’t have to be strong everyday. Rest days do not have to be boring you can sleep-in, do your favourite activities like walking your dog, swimming, playing with your kids.
