The Story of the Two Wolves.
One day, a disciple came to The Buddha with a problem. “Master”, he said, “A fight is going on inside me.” The Buddha asked, “Tell me what troubles you, my son.” The disciple continued, “My Lord, more and more, I realize that I am not one but two different people living in the same body. One person is happy and loves life and the people around him. But then, there is this other person who sounds like me but says such bad and negative things. I am in constant anguish, my Lord. Who am I?” The Buddha smiled and said, “You have discovered the Two Wolves who are always fighting each other. One of them is evil. He is angry, envious, sorrowful, regretful. He is greedy, arrogant, and wallows in self-pity. He is resentful, feels inferior, tells lies, and suffers from self-doubt and ego. The other wolf is good - he is joyful, peaceful, loving, hopeful, serene, humble, kind, benevolent. He has empathy for others, is generous and truthful, is compassionate, and has faith in himself.” The Buddha continued, “My son, it is this same fight that is raging inside you - and inside every other person since the beginning of time.” The disciple thought about it for a minute and then asked The Buddha, “ Master, which wolf will ultimately win the fight?" The Buddha smiled and replied, "The one that you feed!” Moral: What we focus on becomes reality. If you express gratitude, then you will see an increase in positive experiences. But if you keep thinking negative thoughts, then you’ll always see the glass half empty and attract misfortune. To live a good life, start feeding the good wolf and starve the bad wolf.
