Get A Training Partner
I know sometimes it isn't effortless to find a training partner who matches up with your goals and regularly workout with you. But hear me out, your training partner, or even having a spotter can increase your performance. Check out this study; few trained recreational lifters did bench press at around 60 percent of their 1RM once they performed bench press without the presence of spotter, and another time it was the presence of the spotter and when spotter was present on average 1.5 reps were increased. Also, Self-efficacy was roughly 45% higher when benching with visible spotters. This study demonstrates that using spotters can improve performance, decrease perceived effort, and increase self-efficacy. The effect would likely be even more significant with dedicated training partners. The reason for the increase in performance was mainly because of "social facilitation effects." I generally recommended getting a spotter, solely for safety reasons (especially when squatting or benching). However, if you look around your gym, you’ll probably see that many people don’t regularly get spotters. I’d think that most people either don’t like approaching strangers to ask for a spot, or they don’t want to inconvenience other gym-goers. In that case, having a gym, the partner is helpful, and social facilitation would be even higher with a training partner who helps excite you up, whose company you enjoy, and who helps keep you accountable.
