One of the biggest misconceptions is the notion that you MUST consume food upon waking because it’s inherently “healthy”, this does not hold any credence. Of course, for some of us, breakfast is an essential meal and without it, you can not start your day then you can continue taking it.

In a meta-analysis, it was found that participated assigned to eat breakfast had a higher total daily energy intake as opposed to those assigned to skip breakfast. This means that the group that consumed breakfast did NOT compensate their energy intake later in the day and eat less throughout the day. This is the issue with just randomly suggesting someone eat breakfast even though they may not be accustomed to doing so or just aren’t hungry upon waking. At the end of the day, adherence and convenience are going to be the determining factor with whatever diet strategy you decide to use. If you wake up, feel true hunger and want to eat go for it. If you don’t eat until mid-afternoon that works as well. Otherwise, breakfast does not serve any such additional health benefit References- 1.https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5572489/ 2.https://www.bmj.com/content/364/bmj.l42
